Love the serenity of the park area. Plenty of parking, walking trails, and adventure trails for those young or strong enough to take on a good hike. The Zoo is a great place to take the kids, or grandkids for a chance to view non-native animals as birds, even reptiles too.
The place was clean and well kept. And the views from up there during the fall is magnificent. You can see for miles on a clear fall day. Just lovely!
Outstanding view of the Roanoke Valley.
The zoo is in need of lots of repairs and updating, its be probably 30 years since I was here last and it will be a long time before I come back. The overlook is very nice and is a good place to take a date. Overall is was a good experience and my 8 y/o had a good time.
You can also see the mountains surrounding the valley. You can see mountains over 60 miles away. It is also cool to be at the base of the star that that is illuminated after dark.
